About Baskets of Africa

We are proud to offer unique baskets from throughout the African continent. These one-of-a-kind pieces of functional artwork are woven by local African craftspeople who share our commitment to quality.

African Fair Trade Basket

We believe that promoting the work of these skilled artisans contributes toward their economic development and stability. The majority of these weavers are women, working to support themselves and their families. We also believe that by weaving baskets in the traditional manner, the weavers of Africa are preserving their cultural heritage as well as advancing themselves financially. We would like to support this endeavor throughout Africa.

We are members of the Fair Trade Federation, an organization that shares our strong belief that indigenous people around the world should be compensated fairly for their amazing work.

We always operate in an environment of mutual trust and respect with the weavers and craft co-ops we represent.

We feel that our business offers our customers a win-win situation: by purchasing one of our rare finds, you are not only getting a wonderful, handmade basket for your home or business, you are also contributing to the preservation of African culture and helping a craftsperson become financially independent. It's a true economic partnership in every sense of the word.

Baskets of Africa was founded in 2002. Cael Chappell started working in African Art and Crafts in 1991 and fell in love with the incredible artistry and creativity of African basket weavers. This led to the creation of Baskets of Africa in order to focus attention on these amazing weavers and their work. He has been dedicated to the principles of Fair Trade throughout his career in Africa, so when he started Baskets of Africa, joining the Fair Trade Federation in 2003 was a natural fit. You can contact him directly via email anytime if you have any questions about his mission, purpose, or these wonderful baskets: Email Baskets of Africa

Thank you for your support!

African Allure LogoAbout African Allure

African Allure is the sister company of Baskets of Africa, a premier provider of Fair Trade African baskets and crafts, and a long-time member of the Fair Trade Federation.

African Allure reflects the fascination, draw, and enchantment of Africa. The vast geography, wildlife, history, culture, crafts, and art all combine to create this mystique. Whether you've experienced this attraction first hand through travel, or have yet to discover it, please enjoy a glimpse of African Allure.

For over 12 years we have worked with weavers, sculptors, and jewelers to sell their creations around the world for Fair Trade wages. We believe that promoting the work of these skilled artists contributes toward their economic development and stability.

In 2013, we decided to spin-off African Allure to it's own website located at http://AfricanAllure.com. All the same high quality and fair trade standards that we have brought to African Baskets, we also apply to our offerings of affordable, highest quality, handmade, fair trade African home decor, jewelry, and gifts.
